Lord of all worlds , we bless your name for all those who have entered into their rest, and reached the promised land where you are seen face to face. Give us grace to follow in their footsteps as they followed in the footsteps of your holy son. Keep alive in us the memory of those dear to ourselves whom you have called to yourself, and grant that every rembrance that turns our hearts from things seen to things unseen may lead us always upwards to you, until we come to our eternal rest; through Jesus Christ our Lord – Amen.
A prayer of John Wesley:
Thou art never weary O Lord of doing us good. Let us never be weary of doing thee service. But, as thou hast pleasure in the prosperity of thy servants, so let us take pleasure in the service of our Lord, and abound in thy work, and in thy love and praise evermore. O fill up all that is wanting ,reform whatever is amiss in us, perfect the thing that concerned us. Let the witness of thy pardoning love ever abide in all our hearts. Amen.
O God by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light riseth up in darkness for the godly; grant us, in all doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what thou wouldst have us do , that the spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices, and that in thy light we may see light, and in thy straight path may not stumble; thought Jesus Christ our Lord.
THE GHANIAN LORRY DRIVER’S PRAYER
Lord the motor under me is running hot. Lord, there are 28 people and lots of luggage in the truck. Underneath are my bad tyres. The brakes are unreliable. Unfortunately, I have no money and parts are difficult to get.
Lord, I did not overload the truck.
Lord, “Jesus is Mine” is written on the vehicle , for without him I would not drive a single mile. The people in the back are relying on me. They trust me because thy see the words “Jesus is Mine” . Lord, I trust You!
First comes the straight road with little danger. I can keep my eye on the women, children and chickens in the village. But soon the road begins to turn; it goes up and down , it jumps and dances, this death road to Kumasi……Lord Kumasi is the temptation to take more people than we should. Let’s overcome it.
And finally to Akwasim. Passing large churches in the village, I am reminded of you, and in reverence I take off my hat. Now downhill in second gear.
One more temptation, the straight road to Accra. Lord, keep my feet steady on the pedals, even on the straight road to Accra.
Lord, I sing hallelujah when the ride is ended for you brought the truck and the people in safety through the hustle and bustle of Accra.
Lord all is mercy because “ Jesus is Mine” . Hallelujah…Amen.
